Film #11: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Alright, so for tonight I watched the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. This movie is a bit different than most movies that you have probably seen. The film takes place in Canada where Scott Pilgrim lives. Scott is apart of a band named, “Sex Bom-omb” Their style of music is very similar to Beck. In fact, most of the music in this film is of a similar genre and Beck even did a few of the songs in the film.

Don’t get the wrong idea, this film is no musical. The film just has a killer soundtrack…if you’re into that kind of music. The film is all about how Scott falls for this girl, Ramona, that is in his dreams, thus becoming, quite literally, the woman of his dreams. The problem is that Scott must first defeat her 7 evil ex-boyfriends. The movie doesn’t really take place in a realistic frame of reality. Fight scenes take place in the air, ridiculous moves that defy gravity are made, and when the ex’s are defeated, they turn into game coins and scatter across the floor. This movie is fast paced and not to be taken literally or very seriously.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was first a graphic novel series created by: Brian Lee O’Malley, starting in 2004 with the last issue ending in 2010. The novel was turned into film in 2010 and was given two different endings, as principal photography for the film ended before the last issue of Scott Pilgrim was released to the public.

This film is fun. There are very few adjectives to describe this film, as it is very bizarre and unique at the same time. I love how this movie flows and the story develops. There is a definite love triangle that is incredibly interesting, and the entire story is unlike anything that I have ever seen in a movie. I loved this movie and loved seeing it for a second time.
